NEWS & UPDATESBeef AdvocacyAs advocates for Canadian agriculture, in particular beef, the 2011-2012 CYL candidates were asked to create a video that tells the beef cattle producer’s story to the consumer so they understand and appreciate the due diligence producers and industry take to ensure a high-quality product and sustainable industry. The video challenge was part of a competition that would see CYL candidates vie for a spot at upcoming international conferences. Topics for the video included water use in beef production; environmental stewardship and sustainability; the use of hormones in beef production; and animal care. View their videos: Cattlemen’s Young Leaders officially launched across Canada on April 1st & 2nd during the Northlands Farm and Ranch Show. A banquet was held in honor of the 2010 Alberta Pilot Graduates Graduates included: Left to right Cody Schooten, Ricki Fleming, Samantha Sperber, Rosie Templeton and Nanita Blomquist. The Chair of the CYL Program and Past President of CCA also announced the creation of a CYL Advisory Council to the Canadian Cattlemen’s Association. On day two, 16 candidates were selected as 2011 CYL mentorship recipients. They will commence an eight month mentorship once their mentors are selected and confirmed. Congratulations goes out to:

Welcome to the Cattlemen's Young Leaders
This program provides a combination of formal and informal opportunities to learn from existing beef cattle industry leaders and other youth organizations undertaking mentorship opportunities. Young producers between the ages of 18 and 35 years have a chance to participate in provincial, national and international high level discussions that define the direction and future of the Canadian cattle & beef industry. Providing participants with a chance to explore a potential career choice or rewarding provincial/national producer organization involvement, while gaining essential business connections and learning tools along the way. |
