Beef Advocacy

As advocates for Canadian agriculture, in particular beef, the 2011-2012 CYL candidates were asked to create a video that tells the beef cattle producer’s story to the consumer so they understand and appreciate the due diligence producers and industry take to ensure a high-quality product and sustainable industry.  The video challenge was part of a competition that would see CYL candidates vie for a spot at upcoming international conferences. Topics for the video included water use in beef production; environmental stewardship and sustainability; the use of hormones in beef production; and animal care.

Providing participants with a chance to explore a potential career choice or rewarding provincial/national producer organization involvement, while gaining essential business connections and learning tools along the way.

"What an opportunity I have had to work with Dr. Craig Dorrin and Dr. Mike Jelinski. This mentorship wasn’t just for part of a year, but one that will last forever. I'm still taking part in events that my mentors recommended.” - Ricki Fleming

“Working with Dianne Finstad as my mentor was a life-changing experience. It solidified my decision to make a career out of communicating agriculture and the cattle industry to the public, and provided me with invaluable contacts. My CYL mentorship opened countless doors for me and continues to provide me with outstanding opportunities in my field of interest.” – Rosie Templeton
